What makes Tim Driman different from most other wildlife photographers
May 01, 2025
His personal style, and unique work sets him apart from others, noticeably. He is certainly NOT your regular wildlife photographer.
Tim’s fresh, and unique style of editing, places his work somewhere between a photograph and a sketch, which makes it highly sought after by the high-end interior décor world. The appeal, growing demand, and value of his pictures are further accelerated, as he only allows limited editions of his pictures to be sold.
At the very young age of only 6 yrs old, Tim was tragically involved in a terrible shooting accident! The doctors just managed to save his life, and his natural eyeball, but the entire retina at the back of his right eye, was completely destroyed, leaving him totally blind in that eye!
Forced by the fact that while he could only see half of what fully-sighted people could see, he has to spend twice as long observing, but also listening, in order to match them. For Tim, this enabled him to perceive, and subconsciously interpret the subtle differences, which created in him, an uncanny “Sixth Sense” (aka: An intuitive faculty giving acute, inexplicable awareness.), which shines through his unique work.
A dedicated lover of nature since his junior school days, he and his wife (Yvonne) decided to study further in 2010, and they completed all three levels of the Field Guides Association of South Africa (https://www.fgasa.co.za/ ) academic syllabus, as well as completing their practical internships at the Nkombe Ranger Training camp, in the world acclaimed Sabi-Sabi Concession, west of the Kruger National Park (South Africa), where they both qualified, as Field Guides, and immediately there-after, completing their post graduate - Trails Guide qualifications in 2012, which licensed them to officially guide guests in any Big 5 (Elephant, Lion, Leopard, White Rhino, and Buffalo) wilderness area in a vehicle, as well as on foot.
They have been involved in wilderness conservation since 1996, through their co-ownership of a “Big 7”- (+Black Rhino and Cheetah) reserve in their home province of KwaZulu Natal. (SA)
Tim’s uncanny abilities to see, and capture what others missed, have elevated his photography to levels beyond most others, and coupled with his intimate knowledge of the bush, all the inhabitants, and their behavioral patterns, he has been able to intuitively position himself, anticipate, and capture movement, which can be identified by his extraordinary, and unique images which he captures.
