An extraordinary capture by international award-winning, South African wildlife photographer – Tim Driman. This photograph has been transformed through a specialised technique into a unique piece of art.
About the Shot

Every wildlife photographer aspires to capture face-on images of predators in action. But it is never that easy, and these things have to be thought through, before attempting them, for fear of wasting precious, momentary opportunities.

We had followed this large male leopard, as he moved from one territorial female leopard, to the next, all within his personal range. (*Male leopards operate in a range which can cover multiple female territories. He mates with those females, and she produces offspring which he considers as his own. He guards his range, his females and their cubs jealously, chasing off would-be challengers. While he is young and virile, all goes well, but the day a younger a stronger male enters his range, and challenges his superiority, things can quickly change, if he can’t win the battle, and is either killed or chased off!)

This particular male leopard was magnificent, and in his prime, with four females which he protected.

Born in Durban (South Africa) he can be accurately described as a true son of the African bush, well versed in the nuances of the Zulu culture, which is known for its close relationship with the natural fauna, and flora found in the various wilderness areas, from where they naturally source, roots, leaves and other vegetation for health benefits.
