About the Shot

Sometimes the African bush seems to go very quiet, with not as much as a bird chirping, and this too, causes alarm, as the hairs on my neck and arms bristle with anticipation!

At times like that, I have often felt as though I am being watched by unseen eyes, and after I scan the ground, eliminating any potential hiding places, I then, carefully scan the canopy of the thick trees.

To gain more assistance, I allow my general vision to go out of focus, which draws attention to any slight “movement”! Once I detect just the slightest movement, I sharpen my gaze and pinpoint the area, more often than not, this has enabled me to spot secretive leopards in the dense canopies of trees when others fail to see anything.

This particular male leopard was curious, and suddenly divulged his presence to me, as he quietly lifted his head, made direct eye contact with me, allowing me a few short moments to capture his magnificent countenance, before he flopped back, out of view, to his nap.

Born in Durban (South Africa) he can be accurately described as a true son of the African bush, well versed in the nuances of the Zulu culture, which is known for its close relationship with the natural fauna, and flora found in the various wilderness areas, from where they naturally source, roots, leaves and other vegetation for health benefits.
